Time for new paint on my silver '02 WRX- what color?

Alright, I've finally found an unpainted hood (after the whole deer incident) and got it on the way to me... It's a Primitive fiberglass WRC replica. The paintjob on the car, is, well, not so good. the clearcoat is chipping in a few places and got it's share of imperfections from an amatuer clearcoat job in the past.
Current car color is silver. I'm thinking that if going to the effort of stripping and repainting the whole car, might as well get it done a unique color. Metallic colors look really nice (I really kinda like the metallic copper color that's pretty popular right now, also like gunmetal a lot) but I have a hard time matching metallic colors for repairs, and metallic paint costs more, and I'm thinking that over this car's life, I'm going to have to match the paint again (somehow inanimate objects tend to want to jump out into the road and scrape the fenders, so says my wife who drove the car for the past 2 years :-|) And since I've got aspirations of making it a road racing car in the future, additional scrapes are almost certain...
Options I'm considering so far... add your suggestions:

first choice- gunmetal
second choice- copper
third-flat black
I wouldn't consider orange or green, but thats me...
If I repainted my car I would probably look at red, something a little darker than san remo with more of a metalic quality.

i really like lamborghini orange. my friend has a bike he painted that color and it looks amazing. the paint is EXPENSIVE though. dont know how much money youre looking to spend.

mo Cheapa, mo betta... notice 2 top choices are tractor paint available from farm stores for under $30 a gallon.... I used the stuff to paint my bicycle- looks pretty good! But if you're gonna do something, might as well do it right... And I'm actually going to hire pros this time. Painting budget is around 2k, so I can't afford anything too fancy on that budget.

Last year I repainted my sister's jeep Ferrari titanium silver. Just the other week in Miami I saw a Ferrari 360 painted in this color... but for some reason the Ferrari looked a little better. Anyway if I repainted my WRX I would do this color without a doubt... unless I could get my hands on prodrive satin titanium. :D

There's an 02 wrx on these boards that was painted Ferrari Titanium silver(Ferrari Silvero Titanio, or something like that, in Italian :p ). Looks really good.

I would go with Tangello. Its a sweet bright orange

Flat black. So what if all the 240 guys are doing it - it looks cool.

yeah im a big fan of flat black myself. Im painting my 93 impreza flat black in about three weeks. im a big fan of flat black. wow some how in all four of my sentences i managed to say flat black four times, haha. good luck with your color. they all sound like decent pics to me.

You can get a better quality paint job for that $$ if you don't want to do all the jams. I say silver with maybe a pearl or metal flake to give it the custom look.

okay...what the hell, here is the ferrari paint

^^^ killer sight

went out 'color' shopping this weekend - the BMW Steel Grey looks pretty good - I'll airbrush the door jams (single stage, no clear coat) and engine/trunk compartment myself, so I'm thinking I may go just a nudge darker than the steel grey... Maybe something that would blend in with CF such that an unpainted CF wing or lip wouldn't stick out obviously... paint code suggestions?

I voted "stick with silver." Your VIN says the car is supposed to be silver... pretty sure you'll kill your resale with a color change. But maybe you intend to keep the car until they pry it from your cold, dead hands? :D
Anyway, I don't know why you're stripping the whole thing in either case... what I would do, if I wanted to do a color change, is sand it, do body work, prep it, prime it, and paint it silver again. Then, I'd do a Candy Blue/pink FF over the top of it. No, trust me, it's not as ghey as it sounds- it looks like Candy IROC blue in the light, and a really awesome inky blue/purple in the shadows. :disco:

This was my initial thought too! I think it's offically "Sparkling Graphite Metallic."
Second, consider one of those not-quite-black metallic blacks, like Porsche "Basalt Black Metallic" or BMW "Black Sapphire Metallic." Though, maybe those are too much like Subaru's "Obsidian Black Pearl."

Two of the options were "John Deere Green" and "safety orange". Do you think I'm real concerned about resale value?!?
Nah- more than likely we're going to drive this thing till it is 'fully depreciated'. Or sell it to someone who appreciates the paint job.

I'm leaning more towards the BMW - I think it's close enough that if I miss the engine compartment no one will notice... and it ain't a show car anyhow.
