Video of Nexus (AutoMeter) gauges in action!

I have a video of the Auto Meter Nexus gauges in action if anyone would like to see it. However, it is like 830MB big and I need someone to host the web space for me. I don't have a way to do it. I can upload it somewhere if I have an address.
These things are SWEET!!! You guys that are sitting on the fence between Nexus and Defi's, you need to check out the features of these gauges.
Didn't even trouch the playback feature in the video, but you can put an SD card into the remote, and it will record for as big as your memory card is.
Got the vid, need the webspace. PM me if you can help and I'll bump this as soon as I get it on the net.

Why such a large file? That's huge! How long is the video, like 2 hours?

Compress it. If you don't have Quicktime Pro, iMovie or anything comparable to it, use http://www.yousendit.com/ to send it to [emailprotected]
I'll download it, compress it and post it.

Those are pretty cool!

The reason the file is so big is that I don't know how to use Pinnacle Studio 9!! LOL... The video is like 5 minutes long, but I have tried .mpeg and .wmv but both video qualities sucked. It transferred to my computer from my digital camcorder in .avi format. It's the only format, short of DVD quality that shows a good detail. Everything else is just fuzzy.
V6: I show them installed in the bezel pod which is what some people wanted to see. And trust me, you don't get any kind of feel for the gauges at the Auto Meter site. You will have to watch the video. I'll try to get some snapshots off the video to post.
MB38: I'm gonna play with it a little tonight to see if I can get it compressed, but I'll still need a place to post it to. Thx for offering to host.

does anyone know if these will be more reliable then other autometer gauges
| west | 03-30-2005 02:00 PM |
What issues have you seen with the autometer guages cordizzle?
I have had autometer guages for 3+ years in my porsche with no problem. I do not know of any issues with autometer as of yet but I would like to know since this is a product I am currently going to buy since it uses a SD card for playback. It is perfect for viewing on my pocket pc which I currently use to tune my utec.

Cordizzle... just so you know, the first run (currently in stores) did come with the incorrect MAP sensor. I told my Subaru dealer, and he contacted auto meter. 3 days later, I had the correct MAP sensor. Even if there is something wrong, they will correct it. Their customer service is awesome also.
west... I think you have to have the software (not currently available) to analyze the recorded data. I have assurances that auto meter will be releasing the software soon.

i have been told by a few fellow auto meter owners that they were not happy with them. I happy that you told me about the sensor issue however. The trouble is, i have no person exp. with Auto Meter gauges
| ScoobaSTieve | 03-30-2005 10:16 PM |
Well, hold on now cordizzle... don't get the wrong idea from me. These gauges are the best gauges I have ever seen and do more things than any other gauge on the market today. I'm telling you, that I am not sorry for ONE SECOND that I spent so much on them, they are absolutely incredible, and a conversation piece for anyone who sticks his head in the driver's window. I can't imagine anyone not being happy with these gauges. You would have to not like kewl features and sweet "wow" factor to not like these gauges. In fact, I can't even think of one uncool thing about Nexus gauges. Remember also, these are all digital gauges, so if you fellow auto meter owners use mechanical gauges, the I am willing to bet that there are people who don't like ANY mechanical gauge. Being digital, they are VERY accurate (at least as accurate as the measuring device) and don't have the problem of mechanical faults. I'm telling you, these things are the future, and if you check ebay, there are already people who are selling "tinted" gauges. You know what they say, "imitation is the most sincere form of flattery".
| WRXSIG | 03-31-2005 08:31 AM |
is there like a needle in there? or when you say digital is it like a "computer screen needle?"
| WR^2X | 03-31-2005 08:59 AM |
It's an actual needle.
| krayge | 03-31-2005 09:37 AM |
i'm hesitant to use a digital boost meter. i guess i'm just weird in thinking a mechanical gauge sweep on a momentary boost spike is gonna be more noticeable. but if it's an actual needle being driven by a digital input....maybe it'll get that same sweep on a spike? ideas?
| ScoobaSTieve | 03-31-2005 09:53 AM |
I can tell you that these gauges react VERY quickly, especially the boost gauge. It will sweep almost as if it were a mechanical input. (based on my buddy's boost gauge on his 300Z)

Digital gauges are done via stepper motors, so you do get a sweep from one spot to another, not an instaneous movement.

| remowgn | 03-31-2005 11:48 AM |
I have a greddy digital gauge and it works fine. The response time is plenty fast enough to catch boost spikes.
| krayge | 03-31-2005 11:51 AM |
don't get me wrong..i am REALLY lookin at gettin these gauges. just the thought of them bein digital had me hesitant. i just worry that the motor won't be able to keep up with a split second boost spike cause they in fact DO react so quickly. it suddenly spikes to 30psi and back down to 18psi...is the motor gonna sweep all the way up and then back down like a mechanical would? or would it react so quickly that the motor starts to push the needle then gets the signal to stop and go back down?
| ScoobaSTieve | 03-31-2005 06:02 PM |
The needle moves almost instantaneously... it is not a "sweeping" motion, it is as realtime as I can imagine mechanical gauges are. I'll try to snag another video of them in action while driving so you can see how they move.
Still trying to compress the file... I may just compress it the best I can and post it up here. Gimme a day.

Ok, I received the file. The thing is, I can't do anything with a WMV file. So I won't be able to compress it further.
But I'll try to host it, assuming the network/firewall here on campus likes me.

edit: they're not too much more...i think i changed my mind...i'll save up for nexus, especially since i don't have to convert the units

defi's are MORE expensive than the AM's... by like $200-$300.
| VSGTS14 | 03-31-2005 09:40 PM |
where did you buy yours?
| ScoobaSTieve | 03-31-2005 09:43 PM |
Got mine directly from the Subaru parts guy. My dealer is a powersports dealer so I have to buy all my stuff there if I want it covered under the manufacturer's warantee.

What pod are you using in the movie?
It looks pretty sweet. Anyone got a good price on whatever it is and a link?
Thanks,
Jeff

These are the autometer bezel pods... available wherever you can get gauges, here's the link from FASTWRX.COM and they list it for $79, I got mine cheaper, so check around. Your local Suby parts guy should have them or be able to get them easily.
And THANKS! It's nice to know ppl appreciate my taste. =0)

Somebody host it please! This is killing me!
I can try to host it on my AOL space but I dunno if I have enough, shoot it on over to me.

I can't get a file that large through my university's firewall and onto my iDisk. I work on Sunday. I'll put it on my iPod and upload it from their computers.

Pretty nice. My dough will be spent on the DEFI's though.
| ScoobaSTieve | 04-02-2005 11:38 AM |
Defi's are definately nice, and I would have bought those, but they don't make them in 52mm... so that ruled them out for me. I just didn't want to go with the "clock" pod, and I also hated the idea of the "me too" a-pillar gauge pod.

They are nice, Do they match the sti cluster perfect, looks like a different shade of red on the gauge.
I still think I am gonna stay with defi, but those sure are nice

OK... here's the link to the uploaded file at usendit.com
Video
If you can host, just pull it off there, I'm not sure how many times you can D/L it before they remove it from their servers.
And it's an exact shade of red... it's just a different brightness, which you can customize. My ONLY complaint is that there should have been a way to autodim the gauges when the headlights were on.
*EDIT* Looks like you have to cut and paste the link... NASIOC trunkated it.
s36.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0ONG8KWT
then put this after the WT:
FJEYF2SIVL3AVG1M26
That makes one long http address... paste it all together before you hit ENTER.
Aparently it picked up the F after the WT and got *** by the swear filter.

OK, the above works... you have to DL it to your comp... but you can delete it after that, or you can host it and it'll stay up forever! Sorry to have to be so round about the address, but what can you do? Swear filter isn't that smart.

Wow, that was a long upload for sure. I think the video could have been cut down some (there's a little bit of dead space in the beginning) but I'm not complaining. I got to see how they look and they look fantastic.
Anyways, here's the direct link. I tested it out and it works fine.

Thats a fantastic video.
The only complaint I have... is seeing that its 87 degrees where you are!!! Its a steamy 49 here
Question = Does the remote come with the guages or does it come with the controller? Do you have the controller?
Thanks again for the video. Its one of the more useful things I have come across on this site in some time :)

remote comes with the controller, you NEED the controller in order to have the gauges work, it's like the DEFI control unit, you need that as the BRAIN.

So Scooba what did this setup cost in total you if you dont mind my asking.

| ScoobaSTieve | 04-03-2005 03:05 AM |
That is correct. The remote attaches to the control unit and since the gauges are all digital, it needs the control unit to run the gauges. Part of the reason they are so expensive... you can't just get the gauges.

Installed it was right at $1000. But you can probably do about $300 better if you install them yourself. I had them installed by Subaru so they would be covered under the car's warantee.
$1000 got me the bezel pod, boost gauge, EGT gauge, control unit and installation. Kinda pricy, but I think it was worth it.
