What badging should I do to my trunk? part 1

RallyOttawa 08-18-2003 02:42 AM

What badging should I do to my trunk?
I was just debadged by the body shop who is repainting my black GC8. I don't want them to put the old badges back on, so I was thinking about going with different badging.

What do you recommend? I'm thinking of the 2004 2.5RS badges (nice and chrome) with the "IMPREZA" lettering (from Japan) to replace the "SUBARU" lettering.

Does anyone know where I can buy the IMPREZA letters for the rear of the trunk? Do you have any other ideas for Subaru badging? Let me know!

Let's just say I'm working my way towards one :p
billzebub 08-18-2003 02:30 PM

That's ricey...sporting emblems and stickers for mods you don't have.

I agree that if you don't have the goods to back it up, you shouldn't wear the badge... P1 is gonna be an expensive build...
RallyOttawa 08-18-2003 04:30 PM

Bah.. you guys are too uptight.

As long as I'm running P1 wheels, P1 springs, Prodrive muffler, Prodrive floormats (+25 Hp there..), I'll be fine running a P1 badge on the back. Lots of people put badges on their cars which reflect certain mods. My P1 badge will reflect all of my P1 mods. If you think that's ricey, then I'm rice.

But... since I rally my Subaru my riceness can be forgiven. I've been running STI decals on my non-STI (as MANY people around here do, and I haven't considered THAT rice). If I was running a Mugen badge or something, I could understand rice. In my opinion, no badge from a finely tuned European spec OEM Subaru can ever be rice when added as a tribute, on a North American car.

Puh-leeeze. You kiddin' me? That's the Subaru version of Type-R disease.

But STi is a parts manufacturer... not just a car... P1 is not a parts manufacturer... Prodrive is...;)
piker28 08-18-2003 06:14 PM

you wanna trade the GC8 badge for the Gda one? strange

but i know a guy who will prob do a straight up trade if yours is still in good shape
RallyOttawa 08-18-2003 06:26 PM

P1 is a model type of Impreza, as well as a series of aftermarket parts.
garface 08-18-2003 06:36 PM

A P1 badge is rice. Let's put Type R wheels, Type R cams, Type R seats, and Type R suspension on an Integra LS. Heck, let's even do the 5 lug conversion just for fun. Now let's slap a Type R badge on the back and some Type R stickers on the sides, does that sound like rice to you? At least wait until you get an STi Ver. 5 or 6 engine in there(you won't find a P1 engine most likely), but it'll still be rice. STi stickers are fine if you have STi parts, Prodrive stickers are great if you have Prodrive parts, but a P1 badge?
Just explaining everybody's argument for you.
Brad Pittiful 08-18-2003 07:59 PM

why not put no badges on it and be stealth...that would be cooler imo
PARANOID56 08-18-2003 08:30 PM

how about you just do it, and dont listen to all the people here. Its your car. You can do what ever you want. I say do it, not many people have thoese on there cars. If everybody started doing that (like the type R crap) then i would say no, but it has not been played yet.
"you can do it"

Yeah.. I was just soliciting some original rear badging ideas... and I noticed that none of they nay-sayers had anything original to add other than "rice-related" comments. I'm sure those dudes have a ton of neat original ideas on their cars. Most likely they all run Rotas, and STI floormats
garface 08-18-2003 08:49 PM

Here's my STi floormat :D :

standbyscooby 08-19-2003 12:09 AM

How about a BMW roundel and a M5 badge?

I say keep it debadged, just let it say "subaru".

But you know what? It's your car, if you like the P1 badging, then go for it!

How easy is it to remove the "2.5RS" badge? Is it just glued on or is it screwed in?
RallyOttawa 08-19-2003 12:21 AM

--- yawn ---
What's so bugged-out about yet another STI conversion?

Looks like I'm going to drop by Pep boys tomorrow and pickup some "APC euro tails, carbon fibre hood, rear spoiler, full body kit!".

Garface - Do you even have STI floormats? You're posing if all you have is the engine!!! :)

I'm going to see about a M3 badge tomorrow.. great idea.

I dropped by the body shop on my way home from work today and my ride looks perfect. They still have some buffing and putting together to do, but it looks slick. The 2.5RS badge appears to be just stick-on, since there are no holes where the badge used to be, and they never mentioned anything about having to fill them in. I've also see others debadge, and heard no mention of filling.
DanzBorin 08-19-2003 09:12 AM

P1 isn't a line of parts...

They are parts designed for the P1... the only parts that are readily available are the OZ P1 wheels... the rest of the parts were made to be available for replacements on the car. You had to have proof of ownership to get them... until recently... now the parts have leaked out to secondary dealers...

just swap in the motor and nobody will give ya a hard time... and yes another STi swap is much, much, much cooler than a P1 badge... any day of the week... If I could afford it I'd do it...:(
RallyOttawa 08-19-2003 12:33 PM

P1 is a line of parts. You can buy P1 anything now. Just today I bought a P1 bagel for breakfast.

Your interpretation of what P1 means is cool... very cool. But not mine. I wasn't comparing my badging question to an STI swap, this is the "Dress-up" folder, not the "Swap" folder. I'm sure he had lots of fun doing it, but it's just not different from what I'm seeing any other swappers do.

Come up with something new, and that will impress everyone. Thanks for the feedback from the people on this thread who actually had something constructive to say! :alien:
billzebub 08-19-2003 01:03 PM

I was constructively trying to keep you from ricing your car out.
DanzBorin 08-19-2003 01:15 PM

so 22b is a line of parts too...?

and so is RB5...

prodrive is the line of parts... promise... they are the parent company... just like STi...

P1 doesn't make, seats, steering wheels, spoilers, wheels, front lip, engine, spats, shift knob,... I can go on... prodrive and STi make all of these parts...

so yes the type R analogy is 100% correct in this case...

now do I care if you put these badges on? nope... go for it, shoot if you have 1/2 the stuff that a P1 came with, you are doing a better job than most of the people can do... that stuff is hard to find... (other than the aero stuff and wheels)
RallyOttawa 08-19-2003 03:36 PM

I appreciate everyone trying to keep me rice free. Every once in a while most imports need a "rice check". Now I have mine, and my level or riceiness is duly noted.

I know Prodrive made the P1. I know Prodrive makes the P1 parts. They market the parts under the P1 moniker. Which means they are technically a "product line" in marketing speak (which I speak fluently). If they weren't a product line, they would be called "Prodrive Springs". Do you really think Prodrive is trying to sell these parts only as replacements for P1 owners? I don't think so, especially after looking at the recent massive influx of U.S. vendors now suddenly claiming to be "Official Prodrive dealers". That's all im saying.

Thanks again for the input all. I've decided to keep it debadged, and may add the "IMPREZA" badging sometime soon. On my way into work today, I also realized that if I buy two IMPREZA badges, I can form the word "PIMP" on the back of my car. Now that's not "rice" ... that's more "ghetto". Therefore I would no longer be "rice"? Or how does that work?
piker28 08-19-2003 03:39 PM

well dont get me wrong and all PIMP would be funny to you and your friends but i would see it as ruining the car. also if your not really a pimp that makes you look dumb, and girls dont want to see something like that(youve been gettin around). little punk kids would try to steal it im sure. just my imput(not sure if you were kiddin about it or not) but the IMPREZA one would look real good i say
DanzBorin 08-19-2003 03:41 PM

yeah... go with IMPREZA... looks good... I still like my subaru... but I modified it with a reflective white swoosh... NOW that's PIMP...
RallyOttawa 08-19-2003 04:24 PM

What about a modified version... "PIMPREZA"?
billzebub 08-19-2003 04:29 PM

Hey man, seriously, do whatever you like...part of my problem with badges or sponsor decals is that you're just advertising to thieves what's on your ride; see this thread .

You can put PIMP or P1 or a red Acura symbol on it for all I care...I guess I'd just rather not have that sort of stuff associated with Subarus. Let the Honda guys be ricey.
WReX N Effect 08-19-2003 04:44 PM

My 2 cents.

I agree with the guys that have been pushing the line that "It's your car, do whatever the @#%! you want to it"...

but a bit of advice...I had to replace the "red" Acura badge on my Type-R no less than three times. Why? Because the kids in Toronto with Integra LS's didn't feel like spending the 34.99 for two little pieces of coloured plastic thinking that if they put that little red emblem on their car that it would magically become another Hype-R somehow.

Don't give them a reason to screw with your ride.

Peace.
KSs2001RS 08-19-2003 09:05 PM

hey piker,
what do you mean by gc8 badge? the 2.5 rs badge or something else?
ks
piker28 08-19-2003 09:10 PM

im not sure on all these code names for cars but GC8 should be your car, or its GC6 agghh im not positive and im to lazy to find out. But the badge i mean is the one thats on your car(the 2.5RS one)
KSs2001RS 08-19-2003 09:11 PM

ah, gotcha, was just thinking would be cool if there was a badge that actually said gc8 instead of 2.5rs or wrx, etc.
