What did you do with that spot next to the cupholder?

This issue has been addressed a couple of times in a few different threads, but I couldn't find one thread that really seemed to consolidate it. Of course I don't know if that little strip of trim has a name other than "that spot next to the cupholder", so my original search may not have been all inclusive.
I was wondering what board members have been doing with that stop, and if they're willing to share pics. I've heard suggestions like turbotimers, EQs, radar HUs, MP3 HUs, clocks, radar detector controllers. Any pics of these? Anyone else out there with any creative ideas?
Thanks in advance,
MAK

I have seen TT's installed there...
Mine is currently out and I am making a fiberglas mold to make a switch panel for that area...

Subaru makes a little business card holder that replaces that blank piece and turns it into something (slightly)useful. It's like a little tiny drawer. I'm going to get one of those one day to put my PBA cards\insurance\registration in.

I put my Passport 8500 remote there. I put it there because I can see the red led light blinking out of the corner of my eye.

Don't try this one on your own....lot more work than it looks!
Took me about 8 hours just to mount the control unit in that location.
-modify vent unit to perfection...basically remove the blank area.
-remove all of the plastic above radio and behind where the control unit sits.
-modify cup holder slider to make room for back right corner of unit.
-modify circuit board of control unit...back right corner of unit cut off.
-fab brackets to hold unit in place.
-modify cupholder face to perfection to contour around control unit.

Sorry man, way too busy to sit down and try to explain how to do it! You can PM me your number and I will call you. Everyone I have talked to so far has run in the other direction once I started explaining how to do it. Escpecially grinding into the circuit board on the control unit and making new traces with jumper wires!!!
Just PM a phone # and your first name,

I picked one of those up a little while back and am currently in the process of modifying my center vent assembly to accept it. It's proving harder than it looks, but it should work out.
Every time I see the pictures of that Defi control unit installed like that, I'm amazed. Damn good work.

Is it pretty tough to mount? When I installed my Sirius radio I pulled the stock stereo out. That took all of about two minutes, so I can't imagine the TT would be tough to mount, or is there stuff behind there I'd have to take out? And how did you mount it? Is it just resting on the stereo or do you get a bracket when you buy the TT?

I had it installed but a company here. They hooked me up on the install, but they said it was not hard to do at all.

Nope. The blank is actually the same piece of plastic as the trim around the vents. It isn't removable( without cutting!).

I wanted to go with the business card holder, but hear it is way more of a pain than it would first seem. Since it is a JDM part it is meant to mount on the right of your cener console with the cupholder on the left. Bascially the hole do not line up. From what I have heard it is anything but a drop in.

You heard correctly. I picked up the business card hold as part of a JDM center venter thinking it would bolt in. Like a moron, though, I wasn't thinking about the fact that everything is reversed on a JDM dash. So I couldn't use the center vent, but I still have the business card holder.
I started out very enthusiastic about retrofitting the business card holder to my USDM center vent, but it's taken the piss out of me and I'm losing interest fast. It's not impossible, people have done it - and I'm close, but I just need a kick in the ass to finish it up.
Basically you need to hack up some of the plastic inside the dash, epoxy the "guide" from the JDM center vent to the USDM center vent (not completely neccessary, but helpful) and try to get everything to align right once installed. It sucks.

I did that same thing. Phew that was hard to do! All I used is a dremel and lotsa time. Second time trying this. 1st time I tried to put the Greddy Profec in there. Didn't fit to well. So now I have the TT there and the boost controller where the ash tray used to be. Fit really nicely!
but it looks pretty sweet there! Should have done it a lot sooner!
here are pics of what mine looks like:

Now to just get all of the interior lighting to match that would be soooo sweet.
