I like carbon fiber with a nice layer of clear coat on it, not just the exposed fabric. IMO stick with leather

yeah, unless there some sort of backing material (doubtful) the fiber will snag and pull. to preserve it you would need to cover it with a clear vinyl ( similar to what those clear backpacks are made of) that would make it more rigid as well but a little on the shiny side...

I have that CF shift boot in my car. I bought it expecting to throw it out and much to my delight it looks really good. It hasn't snagged on anything after sitting on my desk being thrown around for 2 months before it went in and I'm not really sure what it would snag on. My shift boot is pretty well out of the way of anything. It's gonna be really hard to get a decent picture of because of the CF weave, but the quality is actually pretty good. There is a cloth backing to it...

FWIW I have my center console trim pieces painted black and this sets that off really nice. If you like the look of CF then go for it.

i've seen posts by people reporting that the weaving starts to fall apart after a while. i guess if u have alot of CF bits on the interior, i guess it can work. not my preference, though.
