what do you guys think of this underpanel?
made by beatrush of japan (never heard of them until today)

i wonder how this compares with the cusco undertray?
shemoves 07-27-2005 06:52 PM

Looks pretty sweet, what is the weight compared to the plastic piece. (keep in mind, that would be an awkward piece to mess with when getting under the car, unless you have a lift.
specialev 07-27-2005 06:52 PM

It looks nice, but what about provisions for the brake caliper/rotor vents? Is it aluminum?

Do you have a link to someone that sells them in the US?

The exhaust is not affected by the undertray. Look at the photo above.

what years are they for? the cusco one is only for 04+

pyork03 07-27-2005 10:55 PM

I have seen a lot of their stuff on japanese yahoo auctions. I think they make a lot of different products. Dont know if anybody sells their stuff over here though.

Found a place that has beatrush stuff. Go to the 3rd page and the underpanel is on there for $250.
living4surf 07-27-2005 11:07 PM

what is the symbol on the ones in the above link. and here is some ralliarmor ones. http://store.mauromotorsports.com/raskpln.html
Davenow 07-27-2005 11:23 PM

considering that, that piece is just a skidplate, has NO aerodynamic features to it whatsoever, and the Cusco piece is designed for Aero purposes, you cannot compare the two parts at all.
rey_vibora 07-29-2005 01:56 PM

The Beatrush parts are from Laile and currently Kami Speed is the U.S distributor for those parts. Here's Beatrush website - www.laile.co.jp
drees 07-29-2005 02:26 PM

That plate looks nice, but is $80-$100 more than the IPD, Ralliarmor (Primitive?) plates. What I do like about the Beatrush plate is that it seems to actually be designed to improve airflow under the car, notice how the front tucks in under the lip and the louvers are a nice touch as well. You can easily see the subframe with the Ralliarmor plate, the IPD seems to cover the subframe pretty well, but why does it have so many holes? The Ralliarmor plate looks just like the one from Primitive.

rey_vibora 07-29-2005 04:06 PM

Yeah, that underpanel is for the Evolution. Their are some better pictures on the Japanese site- www.laile.co.jp.
02R6 07-29-2005 04:32 PM

Even though it only appears to affixed by eight bolts, I'd get sick and tired of dropping that thing everytime I have to change the oil filter. With a lift I guess it wouldn't be too bad.
solarakid 07-29-2005 05:00 PM

it looks to be aero dynamic as well. Notice it is attached to the center cutout of the bumper and seems to angle up at the front. I skid plates are angled in the front but if its wasnt aerodynamic why would they extend it all the way into the bumper cut out.
silent_rob_95 04-06-2006 07:30 PM

sorry for the bumping of the old thread but does anyone know if this would would fit on a new aged RS. I know the exhaust is different on the WRX then the RS.
IIdiceII 04-06-2006 08:15 PM

im pretty sure it would. why not just go with the ralliarmor one? or make your own?
silent_rob_95 04-06-2006 08:27 PM

I would go with the rallyarmor one but it doesnt go all the way to the front of the bumper and looks small. Also for the 02RS ones they have on their site, there are those two "fins" that I dont like.

I would totally make my own but I dont have the room or time :(
veightkiller 04-06-2006 09:10 PM

i think it's a nice piece...the real question is how much is it?
silent_rob_95 04-06-2006 09:20 PM

I'm getting quotes 260 shipped :/  but im going to spoil myself.

Its aluminum, but ships at 70 lbs.?
silent_rob_95 04-07-2006 01:27 AM

I think they charge that much cause of the size of the box. UPS i guess charges for how big the box is for that weight.
EricK 04-07-2006 08:27 AM

Anybody order the Beatrush underpanel yet?
silent_rob_95 04-07-2006 09:57 AM

will be doing it next week ;)
silent_rob_95 04-10-2006 01:38 PM

its backordered till may. once i get it i'll have pictures.
mtskibum16 04-10-2006 04:36 PM

Beatrush makes great products. I used to have a Celica and Beatrush (Laile) also makes the C-One underpanel (C-one is a very popular JDM brand for Toyota). I had a similar underpanel for my Celica and they are great! Even if you think it may be a hastle to take on and off, the stock plastic pieces will eventually start to rip up and come off, but with this it wont and it is alcyually very easy to take on and off and no lift is needed. It is aluminum and thus fairly light but also acts as a protector plate if. I also have had great luck with Kami speed and they are great JDM part importers! Can't go wrong with beatrush!

updates?

also, i thought this underpanel was supposed to help with downforce (like the cusco front undertray)

its on its way on a container from Japan, i ordered it from kamispeed. good people.

i'm supposed to get it June. once i get it i'll post up pictures.

i think it would help with downforce and help keep the airflow smooth, but i don't drive fast enough to notice
silent_rob_95 05-23-2006 06:54 PM

ok finally got it. i haven't really bought anything new for my car so i'm pretty happy :D i'm kind of mad since it's really nice but will just be under the car.

it's amazing quality. the direx are in japanese but there are pictures so its like installing ikea furniture. its relativly light for its size. comes with everything plus stickers and that catalog which i wish i could read

KamiSpeed is very helpful and a great vendor. +1 for them.

I'll have more pictures when I put this on when I do my oil change next week.

oh yeah forgot, its about 40"x38" in size so you can compare it to other underpanel/skidplates (just measured the box roughly since it fits snuggly in there)
drees 05-23-2006 07:28 PM

Looks awesome, can't wait to see it on the car!
WRXDriftR 05-23-2006 10:21 PM

ive never installed ikea furniture before. ...
silent_rob_95 05-23-2006 10:33 PM

^then you have some money!

but it's easy, the pictures are very clear.
rey_vibora 05-25-2006 06:38 PM

Great product, I have this on my car as well. Easy to install and no problem in changing the oil. Very rare JDM product.
silent_rob_95 05-27-2006 07:36 PM

i installed it today, and it was super easy up until i ran into the problem of my headers on my RS. sorry for the crappy pictures from my camera.

you take off the 4 clips (2 on each side) then the three bolts in the middle. cakewalk.

beatrush vs stock underpanel. hello small.

then you install the two front brackets that attach to the body. you use your oem bolts. very simple again. the only thing is make sure you have them both aligned to the same up direction. i didn't notice until almost the end.

now this is when i ran into a problem. you get 2 brackets that attach to the front jacking plate piece that is under the diff. for me, as usual the headers were in the way. so what i did was makeshift a spacer from tubing. since the oem bolts were too short, i went to home depot and bought 8x1.25 60mm bolts for the front and then 8x1.25 50mm bolts for the rear. i took a small pipe and measured it and cut it to act as a spacer.

i know, its kind of eh, but for now its working ok. at the end, i gave a good kick and everything was super secure.

that silver piece is the front bracket that attaches to the jacking plate and the underpanel. then i made the rear spacer smaller then the front to conform with the shape of the underpanel. the underpanel is also aluminum so it's not to hard to bend into place.

i'm not to happy that i put the jacking plate lower instead of attaching it to the crossmember. ill have to see what ill do about it later when i make better spacers.

full view of the spacers/brackets

then you just align the underpanel with the holes in the brackets use the hex-style 5/32 nuts and your done. also the front slips above the bumper so that it covers the entire underside unlike some skidplates i have seen.

my only concern is now that it does sit a bit low. i might scrape on more things with the plate, but the mechanical pieces will be ok.
drees 05-28-2006 01:36 AM

Looks like with some tweaking of the spacers you should be able to get it to fit better. Can you get a pic of it installed from the front?
silent_rob_95 05-28-2006 10:29 PM

yeah i'll get some tomorrow.
2phless 05-29-2006 09:27 AM

I'd get steel (zink coated) tubing and remake those spacers. Copper is too soft and I bet it'll start to rattle after a few hard turns (there is some force applied to those bolts).

I run the SSi (IPD) undertray. The holes cut to drain oil are a huge time saver (I'd cut the same holes in the OEM plastic tray the first time I had to drop it to change oil.)

Quick thread jack:

Also, that thing you call a jacking plate isn't. (it really really isn't now with the new tray) That may be its intention but it isn't really strong enough for that. I only use the 4 corners under the doors, some of the larger sub-frame tubes up front (chosen carefully and usually just for jack stands) and the rear-end for lifting.

Even those large, bushing mounts up under the car aren't good. They look chunky but they are malleable. I (or a tire shop) bent the rear-end mounts (just inside the rear jack points) and caused an intermittant deceleration rattle that took months to decipher.

These cars aren't made like hoss american cars. Great for weight and when you need to bend something to clear. It's just a pain to get it off the ground sometimes.

Ok, back to the under tray... which looks sharp BTW. It won't stay that pretty... but it's sharp for now. :p
silent_rob_95 05-29-2006 10:05 AM

Oh I totally agree 100%. The copper is WAY to soft. This is just temporary. It will just be a pain to find steel tubing in that size but I will do it. I would never jack the car up with those spacers on. Even when I get better stuff I won't. My car is too low with my suspension and front lip to fit a jack under the front as well. It was even a huge pain to get onto regular ramps.
