What do you think of the STI scoop on the WRX?

I was searching around and saw that gruppe-s has the scoop (painted) for about $200, so it's got me thinking.
I think it would look good... anyone else do this mod shortly after getting their rex?

Or spend that money on something like sway bars if you haven't already. I just don't think that the STi scoop does that much more for a WRX. Yes it will look good but i dont know if its worth 200. Just my opinion.
| eltrouble | 06-21-2005 08:35 PM |
Your money is better spend elsewhere. Plus I think the scoop doesn't look quite right on a WRX...but I can see my '03 WRX with an '04/'04 WRX hood scoop. :D

i put one on my wagon. i waited and picked up a used one w/shroud for a $100. it was off a wrecked sti.

personally i think the STI scoop looks odd on a regular wrx. I like the way the stock one looks...not too much, but just the right size. And i agree with the other guys spend the 200 somewhere else, like sway bars or anything else you want.
| joeyb7 | 06-21-2005 11:22 PM |
smooth, I kind of agree with you, but the wagon looks great I think. I'll take everyone's advice here and put it towards some engine mgmt & suspension mods... there's always next year!

dude! go to s strip club and get a lapdance with that money j/k
what other mods do you have in mind except for that gigantic scoop?

intercooler hose - less than $200
swaybars -around $200
shortshift- less than $200
steering rack bushings-teh cheapest
ss brake lines- less than $200
gauges "boost, oil press, egt" less than $200 each "autometer"
and the chick gave you a lapdance - priceless ;)
goodluck!

i wouldn't have paid full price for the scope and shroud.....
| Moods | 06-22-2005 01:02 AM |
You can find them used for somewhere around $50... and i've seen them used for $90ish and then bring it to a local paint shop.
I found one my color (hopefully will match) for $50 so i went for it.

I'm Buyin' Still Waitin' for my 02 wrx. But I've already purchased the STI Hood Scoop Which is 3/4 bigger than the regular scoop. It's made in fiberglass , primed ready to paint. I've found out that the price to paint the scoop is only $50. I've got the scoop of the ebay and the item looks very nice. Total spent was $135 ( $85 Scoop + S&H ) and $50 for paiting. I'd say worth the money. Better to spend the money other than spending it on intercooler hose or short shift.

Personally, I love it. Although I know it doesn't provide any benifits, I do try to keep a balance between my mods of power, handling, and appearance. That's enough to justify it for me and helps set my car appart from the rest.
I have photos of it on my car, but I can't post URL's yet. If you PM me, I'll send you a copy or direct you to the gallery. It's a silver WRX.

thats a hot wagon with those UK 17" wheels :disco:
i have had an STi scoop on my sedan and while it gives an agressive look, it doesnt really have other benefits.. if you have a JDM v7 intercooler or aftermarket one, it might be suited better (more airflow)... i put my stock one back on.

Id say do whatever makes you happy. Personally i like the enlarged hoodscoop, which is why i ordered one for my 04WRX... waiting for it to come in the mail. The replacement will be purely cosmetic over functionality, but functionality is not hindered in any way. A lot of people spend thousands on bodykits that imo make the car look boxy and crap...but hey to each their own.
If you like the bigger scoop...get one.
just my 2cents :D

i got one to help with the heak soak in my engine bay.
with a bigger turbo, i figured i'll get more air into the bay w/ a bigger scoop
esp since i only have a stock tmic

I'm with Tizza. I've got one on my wagon, as well, it's a personal thing, I think it makes the cars look aggressive as hell, and doesn't look half as cheesy as some of the body kits out there.

The STi Scoop is great. I have one on my 2004 WRX sedan and I just love it. To my eyes, it 'Fits' especially when you look at the car from the front. like its the third 'big black space' above the two on the front bumper. Plus my WRX has the stock wing, and I think the scoop goes well with it.. then again I'm one of the guys who, if I bought an STi, would immediately trade my trunk lid for one with a smaller wing.

I like it, but not on an otherwise stock WRX, I chose to add the front splitters and side skirts...

Just drop in a used STI top mount and splitter to justify the new scoop!

I bought my STi Hood scoop and splitter for a very good price. I love it and I also think that the splitter does a a great job cooling the TMIC.

I have it on my WRX...but also have a Hyperflow II intercooler. Looks hot especially when the car is lowered slightly! Just watch out for those darn low flying birds.
| wrx2k4blue | 06-27-2005 10:53 PM |
You might as well pickup the STi corner splitters as well and complete the look. The splitters are more visually attractive than the STi hood scoop by itself but together, they look hot

I like it, as long as it has a spoiler (sti or wrx) wagons look good with it too.
Plus, more air rushing in is good for the tmic.
