Who here has had their Trunk Monkey fly off their spoiler? part 1

BLK REX 02-17-2006 08:40 PM

Who here has had their Trunk Monkey fly off their spoiler?
I like to let my Trunk Monkeys out for air once in a while, and their favorite place is on the rear spoiler. However, Ive had the problem with the velcro on their hands comming apart at around 45-50MPH.

Well, I came up with a way to get it to stay on, while still being able to be put on/taken off quickly.

What I did was pierce their hands with a sharp pair of shears, then put a Split Look Key Ring through each hand. Then, I use a caribiner type clip to hold it together.

So far, Ive tested it to 125MPH (closed course, of course), and its still holding strong.

I can provide pics if needed...

did you use some kind of numbing solution first, that might hurt a little?

otherwise, do you get any scratches?

I dont have any scratches yet, but I expect them.

For version2 of this, Im going to try to find something that wont scratch paint. But thats really not that important, yet.

And, no, no numbing solution. I just gave them a lot of booze (2 big jugs of JD, 2 big bottles of Absolut, a big bottle of Red Label, a big bottle of Black Label, and 6 cases of Heineken.)
nu2boost 02-17-2006 09:31 PM

Thats what i meant by numbing solution aka trunk monkey fuel

I'm going to see one day if i just wrap my trunk monkey hands together (very tightly) with an elastic band. That was he won't have to have unnecessary surgery.

Where do you buy these at? or do you just buy any velco stick monkey and put it in your truck and feed them a lot of alcohol?
Lol, I wonder what tech said.
Tech at Maine Forest Rally made me ziptie my Trunkmonkey to the cage. They said that an "unsecured stuffed animal could fly loose in the cabin and be dangerous to the occupants".

TrunkMonkeys are the Official Unofficial Mascot of Subaru Enthusiasts. It was created by (grr...cant remember name), who posted above. To most, its just a stuffed monkey layign around. To Subie enthusiasts, its part of them, and part of their car.
Handsdown 02-20-2006 09:37 PM

the chevy dealership stole the joke, it was sean's joke with some O.G. members.

every real subaru trunk monkey has been specially trained to run around the trunk as needed. it has nothing to do with anything in the videos, simply transferring weight to whrere it needs to be.
circaisdashiat 02-20-2006 10:38 PM

hahah badass thats what i thought but i was really confused thanks for clearing that up. now that they are in no way related to chevy and are a thing for subaru enthusiests im ganna buy one!
ChadC21 02-20-2006 11:08 PM

is there a website to buy the monkeys off of? a place with dif colors? or stores? thanks
Handsdown 02-20-2006 11:10 PM
