hey all,
gonna get the cusco cf rear strut bar when i have some spare $$$, but wanted to see some pics of how it looks and how low it actually sits below the rear deck. need pics of a rear upper strut bar on a gc8, and any tips on installation would be great too. thnx.

I know its a STi and not a Cusco but it sits in the same spot so yeah it serves it purpose.
As for installation it isn't really all that hard, the hardest part is the getting off and on the belt tensoner. First time I did mine it took me about an hr and a bit. 2nd one I installed for a fellow board member took me about 45 mins. The install is not hard at all, you unbolt the rear seat cushions, take off a few clips here and there, remove the belt tensoner and then you there mano-a-mano with the strut top.:D

cool you guys. was wondering how to get that attached since there are only those oval openings. i won't have to worry about unbolting seats w/ my folding rear seat mod which should help, but definitely want to get a rear strut bar in. any closeup shots? thnx.

If you are a good driver, I suggest getting the 40mm one. Big difference!

Ugh I don't want to do that again. If I didn't have stereo wires running through their it probably wouldn't be so bad. Getting around the seatbelts is the worst.

There is absolutely zero need to remove the belt tensioner unless you are a masochist :). There is nothing harder than getting that tensioner back in- taking it out is deceptively easy when you consider the epic conflagration to get it back in :D.

Seriously? then how did you the Ring end to get in because I've tried and I could see no way of doing it. I got the hang of the tensioner so it was pretty easy getting it in and out.

I have a regular Cusco rear bar, it made a noticeable but slight difference. Creaks from the rear have been signifcantly reduced and I can feel the rear suspension doing more work now. I installed it in about an hour and 15, it wasn't too bad, you just need to be patient when slipping the strut tops on.
edit: I didn't need to remove the belt tensioner.

If you haven't got the bar yet I heard that the Cusco ones aren't really carbon fiber. The guy I got mine from told me they are basically aluminum (or something) wrapped in carbon, So I got the type OS. I only wanted the CF for the lower weight, which is really anal since the standard one is really light.
You might want to check this out. If you just want the look then go for it, but thats a decent chunk of change for basically the same thing thats $50 less.

hey dark,
no, i haven't gotten any rear bar yet, thnx for the info. did you look at the one i posted a link to above? the one i was looking at on that link is like $187. do you know of another brand that is real cf (other than overlay)? i have a sti cf one for the front, and want a cf one for the back to match (match both the front strut bar but also my cf theme). thnx.
