Who's mounted the v8 STi lip on a wagon? part 1

BIGSKYWRX 09-05-2005 11:59 AM

Who's mounted the v8 STi lip on a wagon?
I'm trying to find details on what is entailed. This guy mounted the replica on (gruppe-s), but had a shop do it and doesn't know how muc (if any?) trimming or what not was needed.

Look really good IMO, just wnat to see how big of a deal it is to mount.

Panic 09-05-2005 01:09 PM

I have been wondering about this as well for quite some time, I remember seeing his car about a year ago posted over on clubwrx...

I am curious as to how much trimming and other modification was required to make it fit, let me know if you hear anything else about this lip on a wagon.
BIGSKYWRX 09-05-2005 01:34 PM

I thought I saw someone w/ a white one as well, but can't seem to find the thread. I'm hoping it's not too much- I'm sick of being w/o a front lip.
Panic 09-05-2005 09:07 PM

I am going to ask around and see if someone has the lip unmounted so that I could quickly test fit, if I have any success I will post back here and let you know the results...My gut feeling on this is that it will be a decent fit out of the box but who knows...
BIGSKYWRX 09-05-2005 10:30 PM

That would be great :) I think it's going to be very close as well.
proletariandan 09-05-2005 11:07 PM

my problem is getting it painted...probably about $150 right? putting the cost at about $300...for the replica...which is better than the JDM lip but still pretty expensive
BIGSKYWRX 09-05-2005 11:12 PM

If it fit I'd spring for the real deal, I've had nothing but good luck w/ all the differrent oe body pieces I've had- not to mention the paint is spot on as well.
proletariandan 09-06-2005 07:47 AM

real deal will cost you as much as the JDM OEM lip option...i like that one better....plus its meant for a wagon :D
Panic 09-06-2005 08:59 AM

the replicas (which I can't seem to quickly find) were selling at a substantial discount over the the real deal and fitment reports on sedans have been very positive...

Agreed though, if the choice was between the real deal jdm sti lip and the jdm wagon lip that would be an easy choice...
BIGSKYWRX 09-06-2005 09:22 AM

I'd get the wagon one too, but don't like the flare at the corner.

This pic shows it w/o much of a flare

This one shows w/ a lot of flare

I don't know if it's the lighting or what and don't know which one is more of accurate photo- there's not a lot of images out there.

If anyone has some more (maybe on a "real" car) that would be helpful :)
BIGSKYWRX 09-06-2005 09:24 AM

^ PS I do think jdm fogs are in my future :D
Panic 09-06-2005 09:44 AM

the only pic that I have seen of it on a real car looked much more like the second image than the first...It looked pretty flared
the only pic that I have seen of it on a real car looked much more like the second image than the first...It looked pretty flared
That's kind of what I was afraid of- I do want to spend $500 to find out it is.
REDrum 09-06-2005 01:22 PM

Tagged....

I need a new front lip/bumper too. Hate to just get another USDM

I'm dying to get my hands on one of these for my red wagon:

BIGSKYWRX 09-06-2005 03:06 PM

I think that's the UK factory lip (first link) it's a sedan lip that's obviously been fitted to the wagon. I think CC-B had that lip available (or could get it)

Here it is off of the UK Subaru site- they show one for the wagon, but no damn pic! I wonder what it is? Maybe it's the same style as the sedan one only in wagon fitment!!!!

BIGSKYWRX 09-06-2005 03:17 PM

nix that- I looked it up by part # and it's the "regular" wagon lip I posted above- got excited for a second :)

I think the one CC-b has is UKDM and the Revolutions "seems" to be their special design. The cheek splitters are aligned different and the UKDM has a slight relieve at the back of the cheeks.

I'd take either on US soil. But, like you, I want to get a better understanding of the cutting, chopping, scribing required to get one on an 04 wagon. BTW, Revolutions is way up in north England near Newcastle, so no quick flight to London to pick one up one :(
BIGSKYWRX 09-06-2005 10:50 PM

CC-B's website seems to be flubbed- can get to the main site, but no further :(
Panic 09-06-2005 10:55 PM

yeah, it's been like that for a while now...not sure what the story is

For what it's worth I love that lip.

It pretty much sets off the whole car...

That car is Wagnwheel's btw...
Posted with permission... kinda
BIGSKYWRX 09-07-2005 09:13 AM

Thanks for posting those! Looks nice, still wish it was "flareless"- but that's the way they made it :) Probably to match the rear strake- the flare looks similar.

Funny in this one pic- you can't really see the flare- it must fairly subtle, but the light sets it off?

moxie 09-07-2005 10:06 AM

I can definately see where you are coming from.

I don't think the flare is that noticeable in person, it really does depend on the angle you view it at.

Maybe I think it looks so hot cause its pretty much the only option :)
Panic 09-07-2005 10:15 AM

Update:

I should be test fitting the JDM v8 STi lip on my 04 wagon over the weekend, if I am able to do this I will report back with my findings and if possible some pics of the fitment.
WgnWheel 09-07-2005 05:24 PM

hey i didnt give that heathen permission to post pics of my wagon!:) the flare really does depend on angle, light. it matches the flare at the rear of the sti sideskirts i have, if that helps any. i wish there were more options! i just put that sti grille and ordered the jdm fogs to match:) and those silly little cf mirrors are coming off lol. Panic, keep us updated!
BIGSKYWRX 09-07-2005 10:54 PM

Thanks^ - I've got jdm fogs on my "list" too :) I'd love to see the lip in person- that's the only way to know for sure, my wife has been wanting to take a trip to AZ/NM- maybe I could catch a track day w/ you guys.

Panic hope the fit is good!

BIGSKY:

Sign up for the forums and keep an eye on the Race Day section.

It is very up to date with everything we are doing.

We were talking about the lip tonight, and it really needs to be seen in person.

I have some more pics at work I will try to throw up tomorrow.
That flare is not as obvious as the pics make it seem.

I'll do that- encouraging news on the flare :)

Sounds like fun :), unfortunately Oct/Nov are my "busy" season (all work and no play :(), but having the "boss" interested in going is a big plus!

We will be back there on multiple occasions, that is pretty much a guarantee...

:)
BIGSKYWRX 09-08-2005 11:21 PM

Nice pics- the wagon lip is starting to grow on me :) and I know it will fit!

Good choice on wheels too :D
Panic 09-13-2005 09:48 AM

My apologies, I was not able to test fit the lip this past weekend...I am still going to try and meet up and test fit it though. The lip that I am trying to test fit is being sold so my only shot is to test fit it before it changes hands. I will definitely post back if I am able to check it out.
proletariandan 09-15-2005 07:41 AM

How much would the average shop charge to paint something like that? If I did this it would be on the cheap. If I could get it painted for $50 or so then I would definitely not have a problem ordering the lip and test fitting.
BIGSKYWRX 09-15-2005 09:19 AM

I'd guess closer to $100 (just a guess), but they usually have to prep it (how much depends on the piece), use a urethane specific primer, paint and clear coat it.
Panic 09-15-2005 09:21 AM

It is really going to depend on where you go but bets are that it will be at least $100...I am currently the guinea for a project fitting the 02-03 rear sedan diffuser lip to my 04 wagon...I bought the replica and fitment looks good but I need to get it painted and professionally installed as it is going to need a little tweaking...

If you really want to try the v8 sti lip on your wagon and play guinea pig like me, you should consider whether you can order a replica and if it fits great get it painted and install it on the other hand if it is going to take a lot of work think about whether it would be possible to sell it to a local sedan or sti owner...
Panic 09-15-2005 09:21 AM

beat me to it...
WV_guy 10-09-2005 12:40 PM

bump...

It's been about a month any updates? I'm about to pony up for the OEM lip, but as a final of desperation, I figured I'd check to see if there was anything new.

1) Flare or no flare on the OEM? It looks like more than the lighting in those pics.

2) How is it to fit the V8? Anyone (panic) look at one?
BIGSKYWRX 10-09-2005 09:59 PM

1.- from what I gather- flare, but not as much as some angles suggest

2. don't know????
Panic 10-09-2005 11:24 PM

I have not yet had a chance to try a v8 lip on my wagon and I just picked up a tru front lip for my wagon for a killer deal, should be here later this week.

Even given that if I can get a chance to try to the v8 I will...Anyone else have a chance to try it?
WV_guy 10-10-2005 09:58 PM

Thanks guys.

I hear that if I got a deal on a tru I'd take it too. Got a quote from japan parts on the OEM apron+lip...$1400. Dunno for a couple of pieces of plastic...I guess you really have to want it for that.

Gruppe-S can shave a couple of hundred dollars off that, but still a princely sum :(
