why aren't there replicas for these side garnish door cover bumps yet? part 1

why aren't there replicas for these side garnish door cover bumps yet?
i mean... you could make something in Urethane so easily and cheaply it seems like it's harmful not to make a replica... and fitment issues? forget it, it's slightly curved and could be bent into shape.

anyone want to manufacture these JDM side door garnish covers?

364 plus shipping from japan for the genuine just seems like... well... there ought to be a replica, no?
Mechie3 02-08-2007 08:55 AM

Maybe because it looks blatantly like a stuck on piece that I've never seen anyone who has them.
BakedCookies 02-08-2007 09:10 AM

I agree man, I think they are hot. But would never pay the premium japanparts wants for them.

I would like them and a rear diffuser.
Mechie3 02-08-2007 09:12 AM

I'd like them if I could get them molded in to the body. It's more the back end of it that looks like it just isn't placed right because of the abrupt end.

^^ good call. Still not sure if I like them with stock sideskirts though.

That guy has 100% feedback with 97 auctions too!

moulded could look sick... I'd like to see that done

tack on their ridiculous shipping on top of the 5% conversion fee... you have a better chance of making your own out of carbon.

japanparts has decent prices but man, their shipping is 'we todd did'. The subaru community is the only loyal customers. I have friends on the rx-8 forums that stopped buying from them once they found the true shipping rates of products. To put it simply, I had a bumper shipped from japan to LA for $100 usd. Find out how much japanparts charges.

If you can ship bumpers from Japan for $100, you should get into the shipping business. I ship stuff over here all the time, and it costs a fortune. The last bumper-sized package we imported costs more than $1000 to ship.

Try it yourself: Go to UPS.com, or any freight carrier, and get a quote for shipping anything between Japan and here.

The Japanparts shipping costs are not marked up very much; it just costs that much to ship things here. That's reality.

So what you are telling me is it costs $1000 to ship a bumper? Super express air possibly, and air freight is by weight not by size. Being on the east coast, I can only imagine how much your shipping charges are. Good thing I'm on the west coast
The prices I'm talking about are container by boat. Fact of the matter is, no one knows what true shipping charges cost (which can be found with a bit of research) are. I just hate knowing that I have been upcharged an exuberant amount just because the vendor can.

I don't mean to step on any ones toes, but the Nasioc community are not dumb and shouldn't be taken advantage of unless they want to be the next kingpin or vivid racing.
So what you are telling me is it costs $1000 to ship a bumper?
It wouldn't make sense for me to ship a bumper alone, so we pack the box full of other stuff. But if you ship a box with just a bumper it's going to cost close to that. And yes, I'm talking about air. Sea freight takes as much as two months, and there's still customs and land transportation to deal with, and it doesn't end up much cheaper unless you live right outside Long Beach.

And who exactly is packing your sea freight? Most Japanese businesses do not want to spend the time and effort to put a sea freight shipment together just for your little bumper purchase, so they won't do it at all. That means relying on another agent of some sort to put your shipment on the boat. That means more money.

That's how I get my parts: I have an export agent who acquires the product and assembles it into shipments to me. And no, that company does not work for free.

I've sent dozens and dozens of shipments -- hundreds of thousands of dollars worth -- from Japan to the U.S. I've tried every angle. I've used every shipper and channel. It just isn't cheap, at least until you're loading up an entire container. Even then, the cost of managing the container (consolidating the shipment, documenting it to the satisfaction of Japan dn U.S. customs, getting it through customs at Long Beach, waiting for it when customs holds it for weeks, unloading and breaking down the container, shipping the components to their U.S. destinations) is high.

You seem to think someone out there is making some kind of huge markup on shipping from Japan. I'm telling you that's not the case. If it was, it'd be easy for someone else to say, "Hey, look, we ship from Japan for cheap!" I've never seen that.

wow, ebay sellers from the left for the sack.

and a loss of 6 yards on this thread.

done well, i think this could be a very cool addition to a car. but $140 is still a little much right now. oh well.
St0k3d 02-08-2007 03:12 PM

ive seen these in person, before i ever saw them in pictures and thought they looked awesome

checkem out in person if u can, they really do look great..... thing is everyone is focusing on like that part... versus when you see it in person, the whole package looks great
Mechie3 02-08-2007 03:55 PM

^^ Can you take some pics that show the car from standing height and sitting height?

Perhaps JDM-STI would make us some custom CF ones? You know, to match the rest of the CF pieces I don't have yet... ;)
Handsdown 02-08-2007 04:22 PM

basically it's on a part of the car that is already very visually messy(inbetween wheel wells and door seems and side rockers) and will give it some direction and movement up and back without looking too ridiculous, like having a wing bolted to your door or whatever.

i don't think he has pictures or can get them, he was just saying he has, in the past, seen them in real life.

*WOW! LOL!! What can I say? Strongly object to us being compared to K**pin and v*vid: we met Dan M and Rob R ( and back then, Ryan K ) several years back; figured them out for what they were, and stopped dealling with them *real quick*

In fact, I told Dan M. to " F*** O**" very Rare I get that animated !

If you want pages and pages of grief-filled archives about these companies; all well documented here and on many other Forums. If you want to deal with a Company that's had a solid 15 year track record, with a philosophy that' s based on transparency in all our deallings; and basic Christian virtues + values; then that's Japanparts and our Crew

YES, we are not always the Cheapest; we can't maintain a quality service by being *the cheapest*( use Ebay for that! )
YES, we don't *always* get it Right, ( Nobody does ) but Japanparts commitment to providing timely backup in the Rare event when things go wrong is exactly why there aren't 900 archived postings here all saying how bad we are....

Dan: Well said; we consolidate freight and do 48 States deliveries too; and it's not free by any method. Japanparts have had 15 years experience and know which Carriers handle parts with the least number of claims; ( we keep statistics ) offer the best deal and communicate best; with tracking numbers
Freight is a highly competitive industry in itself; not a lot of difference between Sea and Air Carriers but the difference in shipping across the States can be as much as 400% between Carriers
Naturally we chose the best deal when we quote; customers know "how much and how soon" before they commit to buying
And we do give our customers the Option of Seafreight or Airfreight to any destination

We know the "Wannabees" and "Zero to Heroes" that have stepped forward to replace v*v*d on various forums; we'll be here long after they've gone

Best

and the overwhelming majority of nasioc thanks you for that!
your stellar service and commitment to excellency is highly appreciated.

i'm kinda sad that someone took this thread as an opportunity to express his personal grief at how much it costs to ship something the size of two coffins across the largest body of water on the planet... i'm sure his case was rare and he was probably too impatient to have it done more economically.

japanparts provides rare and unique parts that are genuine and incredibly cool for extremely reasonable prices and with the best service i can fathom.

however this thread wasn't created to complain about the expense of these particular parts, it was in hopes that there would be someone willing to make replicas stateside for cheap... and even the ebay seller who makes a replica isn't offering them for what i'd consider a bargain.

one could make these things for less than 60 bucks, sell 200 sets, and make a good profit i'm sure.
