WRC Rally Catalunya-Costa Brava 2004 by Telefonica/RACC
Can we get a sticky up in here?

It's the last hoorah for the King at home.

Skoda is running a slew of cars along with Mitsubishi

Sarrazin is again faster than Mikko in shakedown. He's on Michelin's too.
He is running on decent tyres, that must be embarasing for Pirreli.
Yes.

It's not diff settings.
Its not driver skill
It's got to be tires.

Then again, todays LSD and other complex drivetrain settings have taking some of the rallying outta rallying. Explaining why cars don't drift corners, and now take a perfect arc.

Pirelli better get to work over this winter.......

petter spun on a narrow section of road and had to practically do a seven point turn to get out, lost a lot of time

Also Sarrazin is a Tarmac specialist

Not a bad rally. A 5th for Solberg on tarmac is a decent result though I'd like to see him a little higher. Petter's only 3 points ahead of 3rd place so he needs a decent finish at the last rally to ensure 2nd place in the standings.

This is what helped get that SS10 stage canceled, cute, but in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Yea, Petter was held back because of tires, maybe this will be an eye opener to either Pirelli or Subaru. I hold Subaru signs Sarrazin, they need a tarmac driver.

Well, I'd love it if this served as an eye-opener for Pirelli, but it's nothing new. C'mon boys- get on the stick!!
Hell, their eyes should have been opened years ago to this tarmac performance deficit! :furious:
I was sitting there wondering what poor Pug boss Corrado Provera must be thinking;' "Mon dieu! What have we done- forsaken ze French tire for ze Pirelli, wheech have much SUCK!!"

Better tires or no, Petter should have done better when the weather turned wet.

Which begs the question (in NASIOC-speak): Why Subaru don't Michelin?
bemani 11-01-2004 01:36 PM

There are going to be only 3 tarmac rallies next year, right? Better that Pirelli concentrate on improving their gravel / rain tires, and have Subaru settle for a few points instead of letting Michelin catch up on the other surfaces while Pirelli struggle with dry tarmac tires.
GreenMarine 11-01-2004 11:07 PM

What do those Mitsu's look like??? Any change from the last cars?? I didn't catch the rally this weekend... I was at the Atlanta SouthEast Subaru Challenge :):)
WRXedUSA 11-01-2004 11:20 PM

I like to think that Subaru is gambling that you can win teh Championship with a excellent gravel tire (Pirelli) vs the Michelins that will only guarantee performance on maybe 4 out of the 16 events, those being Monte Carlo, Germany, Corsica and Spain.

I think Subaru/Pirelli is taking the correct directions with the gravel tire development in that the new events (Japan, Italy, Mexico, Turkey) are all gravel, and that the trend will be that was because of costs and safety (a-la Hinkelsteins & Average speed limitations).

Whats frightening was Michelin's performance on snow/ice in Sweden. Pirelli was no where to be found there....

Still, there is no excuse for Pirelli's dry tarmac tire. Sarrazin showed that the WRC03 is a fast car, and we know that Petter brings much skill.

Frankly, I have no freaking clue why Peugeot being a French team of all people, would go with Pirelli.
What do those Mitsu's look like??? Any change from the last cars??
Big changes..it's an all new car with big$$$ invested and plenty of bugs to be worked out. I thought they made a nice run in this rally considering the year they've had so far.

I don't think Pirelli can ever match Michelin's tarmac tire, them with all that F1 tire development. Might as well concentrate on what you know best.
